Family Court Programs -- 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office

The Family Court Unit of the Tenth Circuit Solicitor's Office serves the citizens of Anderson & Oconee Counties by handling the prosecution of crimes committed by juveniles. While working with the Department of Juvenile Justice, decisions are made regarding the prosecution or diversion of juvenile offenders.

Our goal is to make juvenile offenders into productive law-abiding citizens by holding them accountable for their actions while offering an opportunity for rehabilitation. Our Victim Witness Program provides assistance in the filing of victim impact statements and victim compensations claims, courtroom advocacy and referrals to outside agencies of individuals who a have been harmed by a juvenile. Our Family Court Unit identifies those juveniles that could benefit from one of our juvenile diversion programs and refers their cases to the appropriate program.

The Juvenile Arbitration Program is a program for first time offenders who are 16 years of age or younger at the time of arrest. Community Volunteers are trained and directly work with program participants to help them accomplish their specific plan. Participants must complete community service work, attend school, submit to random drug screens, receive counseling and guidance and pay restitution. If all program requirements are satisfied, the charge(s) against the participant are dismissed.

The Juvenile Diversion Program is a program for non-violent juvenile offenders in which the offender is held accountable for their actions through various program requirements including restitution if applicable. If all program requirements are satisfied, the charge(s) against the participant will be dismissed. If the participant is terminated from the program, the charges are sent back to the appropriate court for prosecution.

(Anderson, SC). Please join us today at 3:30 p.m. at AIM’s WACS Cottage, 1206 S. Murray St., Anderson, SC 29624. We will be presenting Christmas gifts to several needy families and their children in the Anderson community.

In an effort to assist the community during the holidays, the Diversion Program Department of the Tenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office has collected over $8,000 worth of toys to be dispersed by Anderson Interfaith Ministries to families in need during this Christmas season. The toys were collected by allowing clients of the Diversion Programs to exchange $30 worth of children’s toys or clothes for 10 hours of community service. With the toy drive only in its second year, the effort is an overwhelming success.

Due to the success of the toy drive, Solicitor Adams has decided to extend this idea throughout the year. Beginning immediately, the Diversion Program office will coordinate with a different agency, requesting a supply list from them. The supply drive will occur for a set time period with all donations being delivered to that agency. The first such collaboration will be with the Nurse Family Partnership of DHEC and will begin Monday, December 21, 2009.
